As your trusted Honda dealer near Elgin, we here at Schaumburg Honda want to make it easy for you to do your research and make an informed decision on which vehicle is right for you. If you’re in the market for a new Honda and you know that you want a car (as opposed to a truck, van, or SUV) but aren’t quite sure what you want beyond that, you’ve come to the right place.

In this guide, we’ll take a look at every sedan, hatchback, and coupe model in Honda’s 2026 lineup. We’ll take a look at what each one has to offer, what kinds of driving it’s best at, and what trims and other variants are available for each. No matter your budget or needs, one of them is sure to be a great fit for you.

Civic Sedan & Hatchback

The Civic is a compact car that is designed to be reliable, efficient, and comfortable, with all of the tech you need to stay connected and safe behind the wheel. You don’t need to be logging a lot of miles day in and day out to enjoy this model—it’s also great for running errands around Elgin, with a size that makes it easy to maneuver and plenty of room for passengers and cargo to come along for the ride.

Out of all of Honda’s 2026 cars, the Civic has the most variants by far. For one thing, it’s available as both a sedan and a hatchback. The sedan’s sealed trunk is great for keeping cargo secure and out of sight, while the hatchback’s open cargo area offers more flexibility for bulky items. Both body styles are available in a variety of trim levels, but only the sedan offers the affordable LX trim. Across all trims, the sedan is the more affordable option, making it the ideal pick for shoppers on a budget.

The Sport trim offers unique styling touches, extra creature comforts, and paddle shifters for a more engaged driving experience. The Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid feature a more powerful and efficient hybrid powertrain as well as several upgrades throughout the cabin.

While the hybrid powertrain is certainly the most efficient option, delivering an EPA-estimated 48 MPG combined for the Civic hatchback and 49 MPG combined for the Civic sedan, the non-hybrids also have high marks for fuel economy.[a] While the average vehicle gets about 28 MPG combined, the 2026 Civic sedan delivers an EPA-estimated 36 MPG combined.[b] Thanks to Honda’s quality construction, you can expect your Civic to continue to run efficiently for many years to come, even with heavy use.

Civic Si & Civic Type R

If you’re looking for something sportier, there are some more athletic Civic variants worth considering. The 2026 Civic Si is a sedan with a six-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, and a 200-horsepower turbocharged engine designed to deliver thrills. While it’s more joy-ride-ready than less powerful Civic models, the Si also doubles as a practical daily driver, with a comfortable cabin and a solid EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 31 MPG combined.[b]

Performance enthusiasts the world over know that the Civic Type R is a hot hatch that deserves respect. With a 315-horsepower turbocharged engine under the hood, this model is ready for serious action. Its rear spoiler is both functional and fashionable, and it has special software onboard to help you improve your times on the track, like the Honda LogR Datalogger. If you’re interested in the Civic’s famously impressive fuel economy, though, this option won’t be right for you. The EPA-estimated 24 MPG combined delivered by the 2026 Type R may be solid compared to other performance models, but it’s a far cry from what drivers tend to expect from a Civic.[b]

Accord

Looking for a little more interior space? The Accord is a midsize sedan that’s perfect for families, professionals, and anyone else who wants a comfy cabin with plenty of room to stretch out in. With premium features and an upscale look and feel, the Accord is sure to help you make an entrance wherever you go, in Elgin and beyond.

While the Accord may not have a hatchback variant or performance models with manual transmissions, it does have a hybrid option and a solid lineup of trims for the 2026 model year. Even the entry-level LX has niceties like a wireless phone charger, and the SE trim adds heated front seats and a moonroof. These non-hybrid trims are affordable and well-rounded, and with an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 32 MPG combined, they’re pretty efficient as well.[b]

But if you want to avoid gas stations as much as possible, upgrading to the hybrid is worth it. The Sport and Touring hybrid trims deliver an EPA-estimated 44 MPG combined, and the less athletic EX-L hybrid has the best fuel economy of any trim at 48 MPG combined.[a] As top-tier trims, the hybrid options also have premium touches like leather accents and extra tech like Google built-in, among other upgrades.

Prelude

Performance enthusiasts will be happy to see that the legendary Prelude has returned to Honda’s lineup for the 2026 model year. This new model is more practical as a daily driver than the coupes that have previously worn the Prelude badge—while this liftback has two doors and a sleek silhouette, it does have a small back seat. It is also rated at an EPA-estimated 44 MPG combined, thanks to its standard hybrid powertrain, which produces up to 200 horsepower.[a]

The Prelude takes several elements from the sportier Civic variants, including the motorsports-ready brakes and suspension components from the Civic Type R. But it has a unique style all its own, paying homage to past Prelude models while also bringing some bold modern styling into the mix. While it’s not available with a manual, a new Honda S+ Shift feature gives the paddle shifters a more manual-like feel.

The 2026 Prelude has a simplified lineup with two trims: Hybrid and Hybrid Two-Tone. The latter has a black roof and black mirror covers that contrast nicely with a variety of paint colors, and the cabin has a blue-and-white theme. Both variants come stocked with leather-trimmed seats, heated front seats, and a high-end infotainment system.

How Do I Choose?

Not sure which model is right for you? Think about what you want out of a car. If you’re looking to maximize efficiency and minimize cost, the Civic is probably right for you. If having a spacious interior is a top priority, the Accord might be more up your alley. And if you’re looking for exceptional performance, the Prelude or one of the sportier Civic variants should fit the bill.
